Things to be aware of for celebration of sacraments during pandemic - 2020
Confirmation - Wednesday 21st October 7.00pm
1. There is a one-way system to minimise social contact within the Church premises. Entry is through the Parish Centre Doors. Exit is through the Church front doors. Please follow the one-way system and do not cross barriers.
2. There is a limit on who can attend. In order to ensure fairness this is limited to the parents or guardians, the child and who is to receive Confirmation their Sponsor and their siblings. This will constitute the 'family bubble'. If a parent does not want to come that is their choice. A 'substitute' such as a grandparent cannot take their place. They will not be allowed entry.
3. On entry we have 'track and trace'. Names and contact numbers are taken.
4. The 'family bubble' will be allocated their own place to sit. This will ensure social distancing. You are not to move around the Church unless guided. For example, when it comes to communion, the 'family bubble' will be guided forward as individual groups.
5. Do not forget your Sponsor Card and Saints Name.
6. When Confirmation takes place the Confirmandi will come forward with their Sponsor. Both will remain standing. After the oil of Chrism is applied the priest will sanitise hands before the next Confirmandi comes forward.
8. The sponsor does not need to put their hand on the shoulder of the person they are sponsoring. They just need to stand close.
9. Imposition of the oil of chrism will be done using a cotton wool bud so that the person receiving confirmation is not touched.
10. Confirmation is to be conferred by the Parish Priest since it has been delegated by Bishop David McGough due to the response to the coronavirus pandemic.
11. Instructions for Communion will be verbally given at the time of reception such as Communion in the hand and consumption immediately. Please listen and follows these rules.
12. We are not permitted to have any singing. Therefore some CD music will be played at appropriate times. There will be a very limited homily to shorten the celebration and thus minimise the possibility of contracting the virus. There are no servers and no offertory.
13. There are no photographs to be taken of the children on the Altar as in previous years. This is because the sanctuary is out of bounds. There are also other areas of the Church that have restricted access. These are sign-posted.
14. There is to be no filming or pictures to be taken during the service.
